Monastery of St Macarius the Great, February 19, 2022
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, paid a pastoral visit to the Monastery of St. Macarius the Great in the desert of Scetis, in order to check on the monks and follow up on the activities in the monastery in all their aspects.
Upon his arrival, the Pope presided over a prayer of thanksgiving in the Church of St Macarius the Great, and he took the blessing of the relics of the monastery’s saints.
After the prayer, His Holiness held a spiritual session with the monks and gave them a speech about the Holy Spirit and the resurrection of the dry bones in the book of Ezekiel. He advised the monks to read this book during the period of Lent because of its spiritual meanings that help repentance and spiritual revival and contemplate the mystery of the crucifixion and resurrection.
His Holiness also listened to the monks’ inquiries, and answered them. At the end of the visit, His Holiness Pope Tawadros took a memorial photo with the monastery’s community.
